Peace Enters In

I believe the key to peace is in learning more about people we gingerly refer to as the OTHER.

I once tried to teach a high school class about other religions.  The students were eager to learn.  Not all the parents were supportive, and that is too bad because the class was cancelled before it ever began.

I used the same materials to teach a group of adults and it was one of the finest bible study classes I ever led.

On this day in which we celebrate the great pastor and preacher, Martin Luther King Jr., I am deeply satisfied to be reading Lifelists from people of all ages, from all over the country.  Every list helps me understand another person in a way I had not expected.

Life Unplanned 2011 may well become more than just a book.  It is a way into other people’s lives in a way that is non-intrusive because they get to decide what to share.  It is a way to see how we who think we are so different, have more in common than we ever knew.  It is a confession, and an owning of our own goodness.

It is powerful indeed and I believe it is one more way we are able to let peace enter into the space between us.
